Brasilia Market

 I had to take an Uber into the city on Friday to pick up the rent from an ATM. We use Bradesco Bank, or as we call it Brad’s, and while I was there I came across a funky little street market spilling out from a covered alley.

Naturally I had left my camera at home, my Lumix GX9 that I bought in Scotland in October. 

So I had to use my iPhone 12 mini. I don’t like using an iPhone camera as I find it clunky where I can compose and shoot easily with a dedicated camera. 

On my ancient as it were phone the lens streaks and zooming is horrible but at least I had a camera with me. 

We are supposed to move into a one bedroom apartment in this complex where we are staying with Christelle temporarily. It’s $1250 for the month including utilities and it looks like it could be in Florida with maintenance and cleaning crews everywhere and all modern  conveniences.

So far if they spoke Spanish I’d put Brasilia on the top tier of livable places we’ve visited but we haven’t started exploring properly. Layne went to explore a shopping mall with Christelle on a rainy Saturday afternoon and said she found a Sam’s Club. The last Costco type store we saw (PriceSmart) was in Cali Colombia.

I think Rusty will be happy to stay put till January 7th. He’s moving faster than I can photograph him in this cool climate. 

Rain is in the forecast for the coming week but I want to get out and see what I can find in Brasilia with my camera. Monday should be moving day and Tuesday should be GANNET2 update day.

We had a cheese pizza with cashews of all things. Slightly sweet slightly odd but not bad at all.

Retirement In Brasilia

 

Rusty loves Brasilia but he’s easy to please.

He loves the temperature here, as do I, and it’s given him energy. 

Rain is forecast every day and when it rains it does cool off but the amount of water falling out of the sky is impressive, as heavy as exceptional rainfall in the Keys.

Our Uber ride ($10) from the RV workshop would have worked had we been riding a center console.

Consequently Rusty has the energy of a dog two thirds his age. From barely going outdoors in the over heated Guyanas he is taking actual walks which we are both enjoying. 

We aren’t planning to see GANNET2 again till Tuesday when some of the parts should have arrived. This is Brazil so that sort of speed needs to be proven before I’ll believe it.

So for now we have time off. Proper retirement. 

I saw a man in his forties standing at the curb ready to be picked up for work. An opportunity to express some Portuguese. “Aposentado” I said with a thumbs up. He gave me a wry grin and a thumb back. Retirement is good in any language.

Layne is enjoying hanging out  with  her  buddy  from

Key West, a bonus after so many months off the beaten overlander track in Peru.

I’m curious about Brasilia a city not generally considered a tourist destination but what I’ve seen of the architecture it deserves a look. 

I’ll pretend I’m in key west and walk around taking random shots. And take measures to avoid the rain I expect. 

This is a capital city so in our pursuit of bank transfers we saw some of the middle class life here, huge malls, pedestrian crowds and in person shopping. 

And Christmas is in evidence as you would expect.
