Repaired

GANNET2 is running thanks to EZone delivery service and Belize customs who cleared a massive backlog of Easter weekend parcels in record time Tuesday at the Ladyville airport.

The parts cost $238 shipping was around $40 and custom duties were $100. Had Easter weekend not intervened we’d have been on the road Monday.

It was a mad rush Tuesday evening shuffling paper and receipts and credit cards at three separate sets of offices but it got done. Wednesday morning Tim…

…had it all installed and as a proper Witness should he attributed it all to Jehovah. I remained unconvinced but there was no doubt everything was installed and the temperature was perfect.

We drove to Belize City where Jim Cabral applied his expertise and charged the new air conditioning condenser.

Thursday at one pm I have a postponed wheel alignment at Caribbean Tire in Belize City and when that’s done we drive north to Corozal where there is a campground we stayed at on our way south.

I have been commuting 90 minutes from the Drift Inn an American owned first rate hotel in San Ignacio where Layne and Rusty have been enjoying air conditioning and hot running water.

Rusty is suffering from fire ant bites but the vet said we caught them before they got infected. Her ointment is drying them up and he is doing well, his normal self. That was a scary moment and I apologize for introducing a negative note. The skin is much less inflamed and the bites are cleanly scabbed.

We are returning to Mexico as I want to make sure GANNET2 is in top shape after this ordeal. I have no desire to uncover a problem on the road as Central America would be a difficult place to break down.

Our plan is to visit Kip at Promasters Only our trusted mechanic in Ohio for a check up and maintenance. Breaking down is a fact of life but causing the wreck that I caused by my lack of care was a call to pay more attention.

Our exact route in October isn’t decided, Mexico’s east coast versus our usual west coast route but the idea will be to bypass Belize obviously (!) lovely country though it is, and to enter Guatemala early in the dry season to take advantage of more time and no distractions.

Layne’s dentistry will be taken care of in Mexico on our way back to the US.

The idea will be to go south at the right time of year with confidence in our machine. Belize River at Iguana Creek Road:
