It was time to leave Mendoza. So we went to lunch first, of course. Hans, the owner at our campsite recommended Villa Mi Familia just up the road from his own hotel so we went. It promised well with homemade vermouth (not too sweet) and a vast tray of cold cuts and cheese. In itself that would have been enough.
We had our to go boxes for just such an emergency.
Tomorrow’s lunch I think.
I asked the waitress how Argentines pack it all away and she laughed and said this is normally Sunday lunch for the family so they linger over the food. We didn’t two and a half hours sampling the various courses.
We had our first meat course which was sausage and grilled cow intestine which I have had previously and find surprisingly tasty, something like crispy pork belly. Get over your revulsion and it’s good.
We did not eat the hot blood sausage mostly because the consistency is a bit gritty though we did each have a slice of cold black pudding made with walnuts.
Then a series of grilled meats, pork and beef ribs and steak.
A slice of pork they call meat pizza with sweet tomato chutney and melted cheese. Oddly good.
Oh and pudding. Flan
Quite the blow out. $66 for the two of us tip and refills of meat and water ( we didn’t two not need more wine but it was offered) included.
Scoop up the dog and on the road we got.
