Boquete

We are spending a few days in the hill town of Boquete in Northern Panama. It’s almost 3,000 feet up and even at this relatively modest altitude the climate is cool and comfortable and sleep requires a blanket.

We are in a full service, modestly sized campground next door to a family we met in Mexico, Mike Fox a radio reporter.

So we stopped by to spend time with the family, his Brazilian wife Silvia,
…and his daughters Nila and Rosa who…don’t necessarily pose easily for the camera when they are goofing around.

Their interest is Rusty. They are a traveling family so a pet isn’t on the cards.

They’ve been in Boquete for months  living through the blockades that closed Panama and keeping us informed, and next week they have to leave and go north to Costa Rica for a family reunion. They have made friends in town, participated in the expatriate life, and this weekend we watched a goodbye performance for their dance class.

Star viewer: Rusty.

It reminded me of Key West High School holiday performances. Then there was the Christmas Parade obviously a reminder to us of the Holiday Parade in Key West. Police of course led off…

Grabbing the thrown candy; a time honored Key West tradition.

Rusty did great, handling the crowds masterfully and as there are no street dogs in Panama he was keen to walk and explore so we did. He had a great time and passed out practically with his nose in his dinner bowl. It was good to see him so active.

English has become the default language if the locals see a foreigner. The fact that we speak Spanish counts for nothing.

Ingco is a Chinese copy of DeWalt power tools which we have seen previously in Belize.

Panama faithfully copies the US in  so many ways. The Dollar Store:

Home sweet home with hot showers to boot behind the coffee shop. Lovely.
