Havana Final Part

And here we have the final series of pictures that Kathy passed along to me following her US Department of the Treasury authorised visit to the Forbidden Isle.
Kathy is closest to the camera in this picture.

These pictures will I hope one day be eclipsed by my own pictures from the streets of Havana, hopefully before too long. But until then they are all I have to illustrate my blog about what is de facto, Key West's sister city in Cuba.
For anyone wishing to learn about the real conditions of life in Cuba I recommend a blog published by a young Cuban who manages to sneak her stories out onto the Web under the noses of the oppressive Cuban censors: http://www.desdecuba.com/generationy/

I can't believe this fine blog got spammed by an asshole named Cowboy Bill. It's even labelled a press release. I'm inclined to ask Cowboy Bill what the hell hisstatoon has to do with scooters, motorcycles, or live in Key West.

As I have said before, the photos of modern day Havana remind me of East Berlin in 1985 -- except none of the public buildings are bullet-ridden. They were in Berlin. But both show major public thoroughfares bereft of people. Too bad.

I haven't been myself lately as the current downturn in business travel is making me throw up. How is your vacation in Italy coming along?

Right, right. settle down everybody. also 1630 am KONK radio I think which is all local talk though I haven't actually heard it yet.I'd rather have an all caribbean station myself, but country music is they say very popular. besides riepe better keep himself calm as cowboy bill's will be a place he wants to visit as they have a mechanical bull, alcohol and scantily clad young women all jumbled up there.
I've got about 1,000 photos to download and sort and I'm back at work tonight (thursday) so all is over for vacations for a while. Thank god for melatonin otherwise I'd never get myself back into the time change groove.

Dear Conch:

Nothing gets me more aggravated than spam or folks that seek to take avantage of forums provided by purists. As I said, I am on a short fuse these days as the current economic drought is drying up options that I have come to rely on. On top of that I may be developing a rum allergy.

I beg your pardon. I will crawl back under my rock.

Dear Woody Nelson:

Kindly overlook my outburst. I was unaware that you were affiliated with a gin mill and scantilly clad women. A man's virtues can be easily hidden by a press release.

As a professional publicist for 30 years, I would have begun your comment with:

"The unique flavor and character of Key West is now broadcast through www.cowboybillsradio.com. Followers of this blog, and expatriots of the Conch Republic, will find a repreive from the daily grind and release from corporate shackles listening to (insert highly motivational text that reads like a cure for clap).

I'd have ditched the phrase "press release" entirely, as it means "ass wipe" to a staggering percentage of the population.

I am going to listen to your station today. (Ill be happy to plug it myself if it meets expectation. If not, I'll lie so as not to jeopardize my place at the bar.) I like a mix of country music, especially if the other ingredients are scantilly clad women. I beg your pardon in advance.
