I haven't stopped for the sunrise in a while but the arrival of the sun is once again coinciding with my departure from work, and the shades of sun, sky and water are irresistible.
The anchorage between Stock Island to the west and Boca Chica Navy Base to the east was completely still New Year's morning, without a sign of life. I could have helped myself to this conveniently located Conch cruiser but in the interests of not making the crime statistics worse, I left it alone. Besides it is most likely somebody's only set of wheels, despite the fact they treat it so cavalierly:

Cheyenne was busy on her own account. She seemed rather energetic despite her recent exploration of the delights of Duval Street the morning after the biggest party the night before. All those pizza crusts give a girl energy, apparently.
The pickings at the Key Haven boat ramp were rather slimmer. It never hurts to check though:
I couldn't help myself at Mile Marker 14 and I had to stop again. I was in an advantageous position going into the long stretch of uninhabited 55mph (90km/h) zone on the Overseas Highway, with no cars behind me and none in front but I wasted the opportunity to be alone on the road and pulled over. I blame that full moon for my distraction.
On the south side of the highway the sun was putting on a show of it's own:
Ho hum, another boring stop with nothing to eat. Low tide as revealed by the roots of the red mangrove. The water was as still as on a summer day.

Cheyenne is one patient pooch, putting up with all your detours getting home. Lovely morning, though, and I can't blame you for taking your time and making a project of the trip home -:)
I think Canadian customs might look askance at lacquered fruit crossing the border. Besides, I already ate the apple. My apologies to BobSkoot. But, it was a fine Honey Crisp apple and deserved to be savored in situ!

Not knowing what you have missed is . . . bliss.
but now that I know you had a candied apple makes me yearn
Mr Conchscooter:
If we had sunrises like 'these', then I would be late for work every day. I particularly like the glow of the warm sun.

Dear Conch:
The sunrise over still water was most inspiring to me. I poured myself a cup of hot coffee and went out in the garage, to encourage Molly, who was washing the salt and grime off my bike.
Your dog is beginning to look like she is humoring you. Really. Look at her eyes. See. That comes from wearing those stupid pink shoes.
I'd like nothing more than to be in Key West this morning, sipping an orange-juice drink, wondering what to write next.

Such a beautiful morning!! I would have wondered about your sanity if you could have driven through that and not noticed it!! Thanks for recording it and sharing with all of us who long for the Keys. I, too enjoyed that beautiful Blue Moon, but it posed in a much bleaker setting here, all surrounded by blankets of white and reflected in crystal stalagtytes hanging from the rafters of our little frozen homes. My body would have preferred the warm scene of the Keys moon, but I have to admit my eyes were still happy with the crystaline stillness of the Blue Moon over Michigan as well. But only this time! Snow and ice are getting old really fast here! LOL!! Cheyenne is looking very chipper and seems very happy after jaunting around that fine morning! I think she is far happier and much more content to be in your presence and able to share such simple moments, no humor about it! Thanks for the wonderful post!
Dear Shonassie (Via Conch):
Before I started a cursed career as a hack, I was a dog psychologist. Look at the pictures again. Those are the eyes of a canine who is in the early "humoring" stage. Soon they will begin to glow, indicating that the animal is planning a solitary murder. Only by handing the pink crocs over to the dog can this be averted.

She rejected them. You are useless.
She said she wants your motorcycle cleaning woman to detail the Bonneville as soon as we have bikini weather again.
