Bridge Walking
Cheyenne enjoys walking pretty much anywhere, and she'll seek out things of interest in the most unlikely places. Including the wooded areas alongside Highway One!
As the summer like heat has increased I have found Cheyenne is happy to go on longer walks if she gets to wander at will in a place she finds interesting. It's less walking and more meandering these days.
To my surprise the old bridges alongside the Overseas Highway have her attention every time we go out on them. They look barren to me these hundred year old structures but perhaps she finds the tail end of angler's bait or catches smelling the place up. I saw this cyclist first riding west toward Cudjoe Key and a few minutes later back he came briskly peddling.
Winter is the season for long distance riders, people who tackle the 130 mile long ride from Miami to Key West, a ride that baffles me, perhaps because I know the road well enough that seeing it at 12 miles an hour would not be terribly interesting. I do enjoy stopping and looking at the ever changing, same scenery.
I don't take it for granted...
...and neither does my ever curious Yellow Labrador.
In Paradise even the mundane road signs take on a slightly exotic air, caught between sky and sea, and one wonders why would anyone not want to adopt this highway?

Dear Conschscooter:
Nearly all of today's 5:01 am posting entail views of the ocean or some inlet. I am staggered that you do not own a Kermit chair and compact fishing gear. That way, your dog could be fascinated by your bait.
My osteo arthritis is much worse these days and I had one hell of a past week with a medication change. I am writing humorous travel stories for an industry that has become incredibly canabalistic.
I have copied the pictures of the new bags on your bike and sent them on to pals, who are floored by the cost of motorcycle luggage. The unusual design of most BMW "R" bikes (the ones that burn coal), plant an exhaust pipe on the left, which precludes an easy mount.

Dear Conch,
Please excuse me as my comment takes a turn into the gutter. Frankly I'm suprised Mr. Riepe didn't delve more into "Ramrod Key", not that I saw anyway. It kind of, a little bit, reminded me of when I passed through Kentucky in March with the bold sign announcing "Big Bone Lick State Park". I nudged my wife and she just gave me one of those looks. You may know the one. It's not the impressed look, it's more the "yeah whatever" look. I thought it was quite funny anyway and brought a smile to my face for several hours after. OK, that's all from the gutter.
cheers
Dear Jack these are hard times and Kermit chairs are on my list of gifts to get from my wife. I need one.
Dear Jeff, riepe hass razzled me a lot about Ram Rod Key, named not for a sexual bondage instrument but a ship that went aground south of the island years ago. My neighbors are grumpy and unpleasant but I like the island, quiet and too small to notice as you rush to Duval Street 27 miles away.
@Jeff Wade - Ironically, Big Bone Lick State Park is new Big Beaver Lick municipality. Having had the pleasure to camp at the KY state park (another gutter story if you include that we bought some preserves - or jelly whiled visiting), I have received similar looks from my bride while making similar comments.
Jeffrey- you are amazing. You get around way too much
