Somewhere in Chuck's album there is a picture of me sitting contentedly in a canvas chair on the beach at Snipe Key, and standing in front of me looking important is Zuzu (or Tootie, I can't tell the Viszlas apart).
It was a hot Saturday morning which meant swimming and water exploration for Chuck and Wayne's rescued Hungarian hunters. This is a far cry from the puppy mill where they were kept in cages as breeders.
The water is quite warm and the sun is positively hot though I am ashamed to admit it, but I must: I found the steady south east breeze quite chilly on my wet skin when I waded out to deep water to swim. The dogs found the heat quite sufficient and they were delighted after some running and swimming and exploring to sit in the shade next to us.
Cheyenne was never taught to swim by the family that used to own her (and keep her on a chain, dreadful people). She waded and got wet and then plunked herself in the sand after playing for a while with the others.
We spent some time on the beach and off, wading swimming and talking and watching the dogs run back and forth but in the fullness of time we waded back out to the anchored boat and lifted the dogs on board. My 85 pound puppy was left to me to lift and she submitted to the indignity with great fortitude, while I grunted and heaved to get her waving limbs into the boat above my head. Happily we failed to take any pictures of that operation as no one of us came out looking very dignified.
It was a 20 minute ride home and Cheyenne took full advantage sprawling under the open hatch of the cabin to enjoy the flow of cool air, forcing Tootie and Zuzu to huddle as best they could.

Have you noticed any differences in the way readers interact with you since changing the length and frequency of your posts?
Dear Conchscooter:
I am distressed with your daily reports of temperatures in the high 80's and the threshold of the low 90's (F). Please allow me to say, "What the hell is that all about." We had one day here in Pennsylvania where the heat hit 82º(F), and we triggered the air conditioning for the first time in a year.
The dog has the right idea. Soak off, cool off, then sleep. Can the general public camp on these keys if they so desire?
Fondest regards,

Dear Anon, It takes time to adapt to change but I see comments scattered much as before. In fact I see different voices dropping in (and out) and my goal is to keep myself challenged.
I read one rather unpleasant comment about how I would "run out of words" expressed more as ahope than a fear but when I do I shall stop. And I have no doubt people who drop comments in shall do the same. I actually find it easier to reply as I rarely wake and find a list of a dozen concentraed comments that all need replies.
On the subject dear jack i don't think camping would necessarily be legal but these places are largely unregulated and left to the good common sense of the visitors.
There is remarkably little trash, no violence, no unpleasantness, no signs; simply a bunch of people enjoying acting as adults. I dread the day I get a 911 from snipe or marvin. The magic will be gone.
After 5 gray days in Baltimore, I can honestly say mainlanders are CRAZY for living up here.
Homeward bound,

To Jack -
If one has arthritis, high 80's are the penultimate panacea. My wife was in constant pain prior to making the move. Now? Nothing. Nada. Zip.
Hell - if you were in the Keys, you might be able to ride Hot Nuts, or whatever you call that appliance of yours, more then ten feet at a time.
Just a friendly suggestion,
Chuck on Fleming.
I am truly jealous at the moment. Looking at your pictures of perfect Keys weather lately I have been indifferent because the temps here in San Diego as of late have been in the high 80's and low 90's. Not so much today... it's 59º and has been raining steadily since about 4am today. Odd for this time of the year since the rainy season is over.
Reipe's latest girlfriend has rechristened his bike as shrunken nuggets.
Snipe Point....one of my favorite places on earth. That probably means it's doomed. Soon somebody will put a bridge out there and McDonalds will start popping up all over the island.
Ohh these are some very nice photos, great view and great place. I wish to visit that place sometime.
