Len it was who asked about any possible progress at 730 Southard Street. This used to be the home of Bonnie Albury who died almost four years ago. Time passes in a hurry sometimes. Apparently the house has sold and work has commenced though Sisyphus isn't in it when the building is this big.

I had a phone relationship with Bonnie Albury but I never actually met her, nor have I ever actually seen a picture of her. She used to call the police, frequently irate owing to parking violations, noise and other abstruse violations of her privacy which included people setting up easels and painting her evocative Key West home.

For generations of Key West students Bonnie Albury was a strict but fair teacher much committed to the studies and welfare of her students. Her home is getting a face lift and I suppose by extension the memory of her must be fading.

I wish I had had the nerve to walk up to her home and introduce myself back in those days when I sued to work the day shift, but I could never imagine her face to face. That opportunity is gone to my infinite regret but I shan't forget my conversations with Bonnie Albury as I ride past her former home.

As I mentioned previously, we stayed in the home that is directly behind Bonnie's on William Street last year.
It seems as though the new owners have an infinite money supply because when we inquired about staying there again this year we were told that he is in the process of selling his place to them as well. I suppose it will be turned into a new rental compound but I'm not sure where they plan to get the transient licenses to make it all legit...I suppose if one has enough money one can do what one wants.
I can't wait to see the outcome once it's all done.
Pritam Singh was selling a ton of licences last year from Parrot Bay . Perhaps it will just be a lovely big private home. Perhaps.
There was a recent in-depth article in the Sunday Citizen about the house and the new owners. Had a fair amount of detail about which rooms the kids would use (upstairs) and such. Doesn't appear to be a commercial venture unless they're conning us.
Regarding Pritham's Parrot licences: Last Stand sued him and the City for improperly selling those licenses. He settled the suit (stopped selling) after only four were sold, and the improper resolution the City used to allow him to do so was nullified.
Hi Everyone. My husband and I bought the house. We had walked by it for years and always admired it and when it came on the market, we were fortunate enough to get it. Construction has finally started on the house after over a year of planning and HARC meetings. ll We purchased the property on William Street in October and the properties are now combined. The property will serve as our private family home and will not be rented....ever. The speculation around this property never ceases to amaze me. Rest assured, we are just a couple of people who love saving old homes. Our contractor estimates that the project will take less than a year to complete. I hope we make Bonnie proud.
Almost 30 years ago I was staying in the youth hostel on South St. and happened to pass the house. An older woman was hosing off the sidewalk - I made the mistake of stating my admiration and asking if it was her house. "This is not my house, it is my home" - two hours later I rode back to the hostel. I wish I had written down half of the stuff that came out of her mouth. on later visits to Key West I would always pass the house and hope to catch her outside to say hello - I got lucky 5 years later and was shocked that she remembered me - we had a pleasant, shorter conversation. Sorry to read here that she passed - some folks you never forget! Good luck with the house - I remember she told me she had a wonderful piano - I hope she left it for you.
