Rancho Acosta, Alamos

Three days of lounging, swimming, plugging in to electricity, waste disposal to hand, and a clear enough sky for Starlink. All for $17 a day.

Oh and not one other guest around.
Let’s not forget food delivery from town. The two other camper vehicles in the parking area belong here and are unoccupied.

The day these pictures post we are leaving Rancho Acosta and nudging our way closer to Layne’s tooth implant appointment next Tuesday in Los Algodones, a town right on the border where California and Arizona meet along the Colorado River. Meanwhile we enjoy some lounging.

And the lovely fresh water pool, a luxury in water deprived Alamos. Everyone is waiting for rainy season to start to freshen things and cool the hot desert air.

The campground dog, a sweet girl, not much appreciated by grumpy old Rusty. She likes our cookies.

For us Rancho Acosta is a mixture of full service facilities and open spaces to wander all within the ranch walls.

The dry desert heat under parchment skies is a constant source of lament for those working.

Rusty knows what he likes and he does not like to leave the property. I walk him to the gate to try to get him to edge around the city cemetery (“pantheon”).

My dog is a bore in middle age and he won’t cross the threshold.

The family that owns the ranch lives in the buildings on the property but apart from employees pottering around sweeping and cleaning and fixing the place is empty. Winter is high season and we enjoy out of season travel!

You can rent a room here and enjoy the villa just as we do from GANNET2.

We have a power plug and a water faucet which we treat as non potable so we wash dishes with it and filter it for drinking using our Berkey.

And, wonderful thing,  each site has a sewer drain. Living here is too easy and much cheaper than burning five dollar gas!

The place is filled with birds and all day we hear doves cooing and black birds cawing to the sound of wings fluttering. Oh and Rusty snoring.

For some reason we have no cell signal this year but we do have Starlink. All is well.
