It used to be that Dog Beach at Vernon and Waddell was the place to bring a dog. So, lacking a motorcycle I brought my gray Nissan Maxima instead. It really isn't the same so the sooner the Bonneville gets back the better.

I don't know who or why this handkerchief of beach was designated for dogs, but it was and it still is:

And when I say "handkerchief" that's exactly what I mean:

The sand is quite decent, and the palm trees make for a shady spot to hang out in, so, despite the size or lack of it, Dog Beach isn't an awful spot to hang on a hot afternoon. Especially if you are a dog:

Some dogs have the misfortune to be owned by dorks, like this guy who brings his dog to the dog beach but won't let the poor thing play:

So the energetic young thing gets to hang out with a listless bunch of humans:

It can be a busy spot, Dog Beach, with vehicles on the street...

...and of course, this being Key West, wepresent the the obligatory cyclist:

And a well patronised bicycle rack as well:

Not forgetting the eccentrically decorated van:

Out at sea the tourists were getting their rides aloft:

And up the street at Vernon and South I spotted a tableau featuring a collection of touring vehicles to be seen on many Key West streets:

Waddell Street by contrast was empty:

Well, not quite:

Waddell Street dead ends into a rather attractive little alley which is made of sand and reminds me of places typical to mainland Florida which unlike the Keys, is made of sand:

But back to the point of the essay, this is a dog beach though it's not the only one these days. There is a fenced in run for dogs at Higgs Beach and across from that, between the White Street Pier and the West Martello tower (home of the Garden Club) dogs are allowed to run on the beach. Water access is a bit awkward as there is a seawall there but the beach area is open to dogs, on that county operated beach.

And once the dog is walked my wife says the tapas at Louie's Backyard right next door are excellent.

Prices at Louie's make my nose bleed but she says sunsets there are excellent.I doubt the dogs would care much one way or the other.

Mr Conchscooter:
I'm starting to miss those Bonnie pictures. Is it going to take much longer to get it road worthy, or are they waiting for parts ? You could get your buddies to take another trip to the mainland for gun practice and tag along in the back seat for the ride.
If I was your neighbour, I would just loan you my SV650 which is just sitting as my backup vehicle as I use the scoot as my commuter. Actually, if you flew to Vancouver on your way to Italy you could use it and take a trip somewhere on some of our mountain roads.

Dear Sir:
There is nothing that makes me smile more than pictures of dogs cavorting in the water. Aside from the time they spend sitting in front of an air conditioner, it is the only time you can be sure they are cool in the summer.
Now how is it you opted not to ride around on the Vespa? Even though it has more power and style than the Triumph, it is still two wheels. There is a local place around here called "The Riverstone," where I first became acquianted by the "tapas" concept. This is where everything, except the tab, is presented as an Argentinian miniature, isn't it?
It's hard to image gauchos riding across the pampas, counting the hours until they can kick back with a senorita in one hand and their tapas in another.
Very pleasant post today. As the temperature rises, the people seem to evaporate. I rather imagine you are entering the final countdown for Italy.
Fondest regards,

I miss the Bonneville too but as I'm heading out of town I'm not pushing the issue of it getting done. They haven't called to tell me there was major forks/frame damage; so far so good.Handlebars are supposedly coming from la France. Zut alors!
Thank you for the offer of the SV650 and i'd rather visit Vancouver than California in August but my wife might start creating if I bugger off and leave her a second time for a motorcycle.
I feel bad about stealing my wife's Vespa just because i fell off. She'd let me ride it but I know she likes having it at work to use around town and even though school's out she is still doing clean up in her classroom.
The model of motorcycle in Italy is in doubt now according to giovanni. I may be getting a K1300R which is apparently even more powerful than the rocketship I got last year. But no bags so I will be carrying my ATTGATT all the effing time I'm off the bike. Grrr.
I have short timers real bad.
