I'm going away for what amounts to a month, and this will be my last essay until August 1st when I plan to be back- if I'm spared - as the ancients used to say. GarytheTourist has loaned me s some hundred pictures to keep this space busy and pretty till then and I have no doubt my iPad will move me to blog irregularly from Italy as I ride. How to say good bye to my love is the hardest part. She hasn't had it easy in her mixed up life and now at last she does have a permanent home she comes back to every day; except not for the next several weeks.

I know the boys will take good care of her, God knows she lingers with them every time we visit and get up to leave. I hope she doesn't forget me while I'm gone because I know I won't forget her. Can't forget Wayne either who cooks all the dogs chicken and rice every day- no wonder Cheyenne likes to hang out with them.

And Wayne who drives the boat to Marvin Key to let us all enjoy the back country.

And so good bye to all the bystanders who roll through the diary to remind us why we like Key West.

Or stand around making my pictures more worthwhile.

There are sailboats and lots of water, which I won't see much of at all until I get home from the mountains of Central Italy.

There will be tourist attractions where I'm going and I'll be a visitor just like I am sometimes here at home.

It is fashionable to hate the tourists once you land in Key West and make it your home but I see tourists behind every paycheck, in every arts movie I get to see at the Tropic in all the exotic and interesting foods they prepare for us in restaurants that would never normally grace a town of 23,000 Americans.
And so the sun sets on my fourth year of keeping a diary, the first diary I have ever kept with any regularity.

I am well aware of my mortality and the inevitable passage of time so every time I go away I know I may not come back. I fully intend to but if I don't- no regrets, that's what my wife and I always tell each other, we've had a good time.
See you in August, of I'm spared.
Ta Ta For Now, TTFN,
Conchscooter, always happy to be home in Key West.

You both have a wonderful time in Italy and I hope to visit in August. Eager to see what caught Garythetourist's eye.
Have a great time in Italy but, confound it man, must you be such a fatalist?! In the event you do not return, however, I will make certain your boat and you home are well cared for and thoroughly used.
(I did not mention raiding your liquor holds as we all know that wouldn't last me but a few hours at best, and be hardly worth the effort.)
Have a wonderful vacation. Speaking for myself and Ill take the liberty of speaking for the other followers as well, we look forward to your safe and rejuvinated return.
Hello, a group of friends and I are putting together a Vintage Motorcycle ride to Key West (I'm in Lauderdale) and I was trying to find a place were we can camp. NO KOA and places like that, too restrictive. It'll be a group of about 20. Any suggestions?
Thanks again and great blog!
Forgot to put my email...bhead1968@yahoo.com. If you can respond to that it would be great!
I guess I will have to change my reading habits for awhile.
Have a great vacation.
Thank you, I'm sure it will be a great vacation. I am looking forward to one more shift at work and then freedom.
I enjoy taking one long vacation in summer as it sets me up for the year and this year will be poignant because god knows where the economy will be in 12 months here or in Europe consideringt he self destructive politcies our leaders seem to enjoy.
Steve - I am renting an MP3 in Rome and I will toast you as I lane split, ride on sidewalks and cut off traffic at stop lights for a couple of days, which is why Buffett I am a fatalist...
sandra see you when I get back.
Michael and Layne,
Have a great trip.

Layne & Michael:

Riding the Wet Coast
Tons of pictures I'm sure while I'm there and on my return. I also have left plant watering instructions, Lynn
Looking forward to the pictures and posts while you're on the road in Italy. That's one of the places we really want to spend some time though my wife is not the enthusiastic about a moto-trip.
It'll be interesting to hear how the iPad works out for you...

Just in case you don't return, I would regret never thanking you for the years of enjoyment your blog has provided me and my family. I grew up on Big Coppit and later raised my own daughters on Cayman Ln. on Ramrod. We moved to the mainland two years ago, but when homesickness rears its ugly head, reading your blog for us is like taking a walk around the block back home. Thank you dear Sir. Safe journey.
Julie
We will take very good care of your Cheyenne and will be missing you both as we and the dogs relax on the sand flat at Marvin Key. Buon viaggio!
Chuck and Wayne
Thank you all. I am full of mixed feelings everyt ime I leave the keys but knowing they are here for my return makes the departure easier. Once we're on the plane you will all be forgotten.Bwaaah hah hah!
Hope both of you have a wondeful and relaxing trip. Do all the things you want, no holding back, life is too short and who knows if you will pass that way again. I'm jealous, as usual, you seem to have all the fun, a residence in the Keys, and then a month traipsing around Tuscany! Dear Sir, I will enjoy Gary's pictures, but can't wait to see yours upon your return! Take care and have fun!
Thank you, but meatball bubble biscuits and quantities of wine don't sound at all bad.
I will bring back many pictures of what I'm not exactly sure as we have no plans except to ride where the fancy takes us.
I do worry about the future as we watch Greece go down and the future of the euro and the doolar seem in thrall to forces outside our best interests.
Dear Conch:
I want you to have a great vacation. I also want you to relax, knowing that I moved into your house two days after you left.
Please be advised that I have found the rum and will put all those tropical fruits growing in the front yard to good use.
Have a great time in Italy... And remember, Michael, on the BMW, it's one down and five up.
Fondest regards,
Jack/reep
