A million thanks Michael for having checked on our home on Big Pine and for the pictures. Not nearly as bad as what many are facing but it still makes you take a deep breadth. Monumental task for authorities, residents, insurance companies and contractors to work together in a kind of orchestrated way to keep 'first things first' and not get in each others' way. The image that struck me most was seeing our street sign 'Granada' sheered in half and the 'stop' sign without half of its 'face'. Gives some idea of the forces.

You were lucky. The eye went close by and your home facing open water should have been trashed. I'd suggest having a qualified person check for water intrusion as the terrace has a large pool of water and some could have been forced into the house. Those winds were strong. The wood house next to yours and the McMansion on the other side looked solid too.

WOW, thanks for keeping us posted and for all the photos. Glad you're okay, albeit tired, hang in there.

Will do Michael, we're waiting to hear from friends when they can go take a look inside to be sure about water intrusion. Agree we were very lucky that side of the island given how close we were to the eye.
We're following on Facebook for developments and also Monroe County appears to be doing a good job with tourist advisory updates.
