Simonton Beach 3

From time to time this is a ramp that people use for free to launch and retrieve their boats in the heart of Old Town Key West. How cool is that? You might want to come equipped with a large vehicle equipped to pull a trailer across sand but this is a spot anyone can use to gain access to the tidal salt water downtown. Cheyenne is not a swimmer thanks to the neglect of her former owners but she does like to paddle around in the water and take a seat in it to admire the view. The fact is not many people come to Simonton beach to enjoy the sand and water and that's a shame. As we saw in the previous essay there are more people enjoying the water from the deck of the tourist catamarans than at any time on this lovely little beach. Plans are afoot to spruce up Simonton Beach. The fact is this place is a hang out for residentially challenged people, rainbow kids and all purpose professional bums. They drink, gather in groups, tend to be loud from time to time and scare off the bourgeois burghers and their families from enjoying the delights of this little patch of sand. So bad is the situation that the toilet building has been closed and locked by the city.
At a recent city commission meeting they voted to sell a concession here at the beach proposed by a local businessman. Personally, much as I like the freewheeling spirit of an unregulated beach it's clear this place is doing no one much good. A concession selling food and water sports stuff will be a boon and the city has promised the ramp will remain as it is and perhaps not too long from now this place will be bustling and well used and enjoyed by a lot more people. And the city will make some money off the project. Excellent.

Nice catamaran. I've always liked the way they looked when they are underway but no experience sailing on them. Only on sloops.

The only disadvantage of the multiple posts per day is that I usually miss a few unless I go looking for them.

Last Thanksgiving at MM102.5 it became all too clear that my beloved baby sister had become a Tea Partier, a shock to me so much so that I couldn't bear to think about the Keys, certainly not about living here and not even reading your blog. Four months of rain rain rain and I'm over it! And back at 102.5 lazing in the shade of a warm porch with Sister et familie in Ireland. May make it to KW next week and if so will be on lookout for happy dog and pink Crocs. New blog style is good. Cheers, cindy

Every trip to KW, I visit this beach, only to be scared away by the "residentially challenged". Glad to hear the city has plans for this beach. Well worth it and long overdue. It is an excellent place to view the water, boats and sunsets. I got my best sunset pics from the dock there. Excellent blog!! Cheers!

Dear Richard
I try to keep each essay self contained so missing some shouldn't matter. I'm still figuring out this format so it is a work in progress. Supposedly I have to keep it up for ten months for the search engines to figure out the consistency of the pattern.
Dear Jack I am not sure what you concur about but I haven't scheduled any naked flesh for a few essays to come. I hope you can make it from here to there with only the thought of dick bregstein with a cake on his bregstein.
Dear Cindy good luck with your sister. I voted for Obama expecting FDR and I got Herbert Hoover (interesting PBS documentary Landslide on Netflix streaming about Herbert and rehabbing his image). All the budget talk is pointless and I see no recovery in our future so I am trying to enjoy the amenities before the iceberg of Peak Oil takes us all down. Enjoy Key Largo while the sun shines.

This is on the Old Town end of Simonton Street? I never knew. Will have to search it out, next trip down.
Keep up the good (but now, more frequent) work. Lots of us live vicariously through you.
