911buddy

The question now is this: is this webpage worth five bucks to you? I have spent almost eight years posting here and have deliberately avoided asking for anything in part because this page is for me. However Google has started making noises about the value of its Picasa photo storage system which will be "unsupported" as of May 1st. This means I will have to change photo storage, uploading from my phone and downloading to a new webpage and so forth to retain my space on the web. And this is not all I have to do at the moment.

My night job schedule has been turned upside down by decisions made up the chain of command that have nothing to do with me but have wrecked my daily schedule for weeks ahead. Every day I thought I had off I don't; moving from one shift to the other means every off day is now on, and every work weekend is now off, for the rest of the summer and who knows after that.

My work with 911buddy has moved into the promotion and marketing arena which is utterly unfamiliar to me. Building the app was easy because I knew what I wanted, precisely. And when I say "easy" I mean I knew the path I wanted to follow and even though it was full of pitfalls and dead ends and empty promises I knew where I was going. Marketing the app is a whole other beast. And that is where you come in.

I have put 911buddy for sale in the App Store for $4.99 thanks to a new marketing path. If you live in the US, have an iPhone and want me to continue this blog you need to buy 911 buddy and post a five star review in the iTunes Store. I'm sorry to be blunt but that's the way it is. Before I start the process of building my own domain, or possibly going to Wordpress and transferring pictures and words while learning new photo storage and download techniques and all the rest, I need to know you have my back. I can no longer juggle the stress of training Rusty, writing this blog, writing the 911buddy blog, managing a whole new night shift at Key West PD and still stay friendly with my wife, unless enough of you affirm that this page is worth less than the price of one cup of hipster coffee for a year's worth of pictures.

Consider this: I'm not asking for a donation. 911buddy works, it will save lives, perhaps of someone you love. And it will improve the 911 calling experience for all. But you have to help me get the word out. Buy the app, rate it in the iTunes Store and tell your family and friends. I need you lot to give my app a kick start to get the app visibility in the wide world. If not, this page goes dark and I turn to more intrinsically rewarding activities.

Cheers

Michael

Hoping you don't let me and my partners down....

I need to wait for the Android app but will certainly give five dollars to keep this blog going. I am sorry to hear about your wrecked work schedule - I deal with that as well and it is certainly stressful.

For those of you with Android I am hopeful your turn will come soon. I replaced my own Android phone with an Apple product, as did my tech partner specifically so we could test the App. I actually like the iPhone now with better quality camera choices and all the storage I need

By the way if those of you that can sign up today you get a leap year bonus. Looking at those subscribed already ( thank you) your subscription runs through March 1st!

Thank you for the early support. Much appreciated by all of us at 911buddy.
And don't fight the review. I'm looking for as many as possible s they help the app gain traction.

As a UK reader, non iphone or Android User, your app is unfortulatley not going to be on my shopping list, though I have pointed friends in Mass. in the right direction.

I will gladly donate to the "Save the Conchscooter Blog" fund, you have given me years of laughs, tears and insight. If you have an alternative way of donating please let me know, I want to do my part...

I'm in when the Android gets up and going. You should put a link to it directly on the sidebar of the blog :). And I would definitely hit the tip jar if you put one up on here as well.

I do not have an Iphone but I will gladly donate $5.00 to stay connected to your site. I enjoy your posts and pictures and they certainly help when we visit the Keys to explore the many sites you post. Keep up the good work and good luck with your new work schedule.

I purchased it. I will come back in a day or two and give it a 5 star rating.

Will purchase app for Android as soon as available but would happily contribute $5 in the meantime to stay connected to KWD. I very much look forward to it every day. Sorry that your schedule has become so mucked up. Wishing you success with all of your endeavors!

Hi Michael, I too would be happy to make a donation to keep your daily blog going. Certainly your fans would no doubt agree your words and pictures are worth more than the New York Times and the Drudge Report combined! If you add that to your blog I would support your efforts.

I will gladly donate $5.00 to keep this site up. And when the android app is out, I will be purchasing it. I have told all of my children about the 911 buddy and they all plan on purchasing it. They all have apple, so consider 4 for sure from them, they love the idea and I know at least 2 of them are telling friends and relatives in other states about it as well. I will help however I can. I would hate to see this site go black!

Happy to send $5 right now but I do not have an Iphone.

What about a paypal button on the site and just make it a gift?

I just purchased your app and will spread the word to family and friends. Thanks for all that you do with the blog, Michael.

Same here, I've never owned a cell phone. However, I'll gladly PayPal you five dollars today for a B.O.'s grouper sandwich tomorrow. or the next day.

Done. Spreading the word verbally and via FB.

I too am in Canada, also do not own or have need of a mobile/cell phone, and well understand the lack of financial resources. Some solutions
are at hand. You do not have to post every day, ypu have a new family member that requires some training and although your primary employment has been screwed by others, you're still employed; just not the way you would prefer. That said, PayPal for me would be ideal; even with the current 30 percent exchange factor between the Canadian and US dollar.

Did it as soon as I read your blog yesterday. It is a great idea and product! Well done.

Sorry, Michael, but I have to be the voice of dissension here. I have been a long time follower of your blog and this just doesn't sit right.

The blog seems to have been your hobby for many years. Now you protest as being too busy to juggle everything in life? Well, then it's time to re-evaluate what is and what isn't important to find a better balance for yourself. Instead, you basically hold a gun to the blog's head and demand a ransom....

This wreaks of commercialism (nothing wrong with that), with possibly two (or more?) motivating factors behind such.

First, if you wish to turn your hobby into a for-profit activity, great! Just say so.

Second, if the sales of your app have been slow/not met expectation (backer's demanding an ROI?) then extorting the blog to meet a expectations is short term patch to that issue. Plus, it's disingenuous the real motive behind your request.

I apologize in advance if I am incorrect in my interpretation. Simply tossing $5 at you doesn't reduce your stress, it will only compound the problem. You will still have too many spinning plates and will feel obligated to continue the blog as you know have "customers." The blog effectively becomes their product and no longer your hobby. If you are truly so busy, then look for a better balance. Life is too short.

I will not be buying the app. I can get my fill of KW and the lower Keys while visiting, via Doug Bennet's blog, the Citizen and Blue Paper. Something here just sits very wrong with me.

Let the attacks begin...

Well, let be be the first to " attack". :)
Being in my sixties and knowing there are millions like me, with children scattered far and near and , as you say, busy like hell, everyone is terribly stressed. To not be is living with the 1% .
(If you are one of those, with 24 hour services , from maids to chauffeurs, good for you.)
However, as Michael does know , having worked PD and at all hours, it does give him access to facts and realities of emergencies, particularly if someone is in a boat, or an isolated island. Michael may just have a unique vision being located where he is.
I do understand the need for funds to start a business, but just because you want that to happen, doesn't make it worthwhile, for most. But this is not the case , here.
I think what Michael may lack, is the flowery way in which to beg. :)
Considering it has not yet taken off and considering there is a clock ticking on this , I certainly understand.
I, too, was surprised with this sudden request.
But if you have listened very carefully, and not been a bit of a snip , I think you get the message.
There is no gun to anyone's head.
If you feel that way, perhaps you love the blog more than you wish to admit.
And that's ok, too.
Because when all is said and done, we all like dogs, Key West , and sun.

I think you misread, too. Choices can be made to reduce stress by anyone and everyone including the 99% and I'm not seeing where gun's were pointed at someone's head, rather pointed at the blog (a proverbial threatening to kill it).

People have been responding very generously and I'm glad because I like doing the blog but I have to be able to justify my time to others in my life right now. I don't have s lot of time for what I call the Uberization of the economy where everyone wants everything for free. But I want my app which is not free to get a boost in the App Store as we soft launch.
To say I want give dollars is to miss the point. I want reviews. Please don't send me five bucks to keep the blog going. Go to the App Store and review the app. You hate me asking? Too bad.
911buddy has taught me a lot not least that asking for help is never easy. Fortunately lots of you have responded and are responding and I appreciate that a lot. Not least because I enjoy blogging. And I plan to resume next week.
But please pay attention to the fact that I do need your help. That you respond to that matters a lot to me. That one guy is rude just shows depth of feeling and I hope he gets occur in mature reflection. I have no hard feelings as I expect his bike was as hard to write as this whole easy was for me.
Cheers
Michael
