Life After Irma

We are recovering slowly in Key West from a most spectacular direct hit by a Category Four Hurricane. Proper internet access still seems days away but we have occasional connections now so I can finally say I am alive and tired. My photos upload fairly easily at night on Instagram at Michael Conchscooter. I duplicate the posts on Facebook at that same name. Until we get broadband I shall not be able to post properly here.
It has been a very hard week with more to come.  My home is solid and dry but many aren't so lucky. There is no structure damage in Key West to speak of but landscaping has been devastated. The Lower Keys took the brunt and there is much damage and wrecked wiring there.
Cheers

Glad you are safe and thank you for your service to the community. Our home on Big Pine seems (from the satellite imagery courtesy NOAA) to have escaped damage but it will be some days before we can reach someone to have a proper look. We've been watching it all from afar in France.

It's a comfort to know that you and yours are fine. It's a tragedy that the Keys took that enormous body blow.

I hate it that the beautiful keys took such a hit but glad there wasn't major loss of lives.

Thankful you and your home are ok.
Still putting things back together here in Crystal River area.
We only had maybe Cat 1 but still power, cable, internet and phones out for most. And water as we are on wells.
This whole fuel problem is a first though. It's not a lot of fun as evacuees need fuel to get home and locals need generator fuel.
Nothing like damage to the Keys.
Bahia Honda cancelled my reservation through the 28th,but tells me I can check in for the 29/30th. Ha.
Is Baby's coffee gone?
Michael how can we help Keys folks? If you know where we can directly send donations to worthwhile organizations please let us know.

I too would like to know how I can directly help the people of Key West. If you know of any legitimate organizations that have designated funds for Key West, please let us know! Thanks for what you do. I highly enjoy reading your blog and seeing your KW posts on Facebook.

Baby's Coffee is still there. They have been open giving away perishables like several other eateries in town. The trailer on their property is now officially matchwood.
